PITTSBURGH (Sept. 21) – The Vulcans extended their winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 win (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19) over Point Park, a NAIA program, Saturday afternoon.
The win improves the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team to 6-3 overall, while the loss drops the Pioneers to 11-9 this season.
The Vulcans were led once again by the reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Player of the Week junior
Laurel Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), who finished with a career-high 21 kills on 45 attempts (.244 hitting percentage), and added eight digs and two service aces. Sophomore
Mary Lavery (La Plata, Md./La Plata) and senior
Molly Delaney (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) chipped in nine and eight kills, respectively.
Freshman
Julie Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) led Cal U with 40 assists in the win, while sophomore
Samantha Rudy (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) paced the defensive effort with 15 digs.
Cal U will open league play when they host a two-day PSAC Crossover, playing Pitt-Johnstown and Lock Haven on Friday, Sept. 27.
