SOUTH PARK, Pa. (Feb. 22) – The No. 8 Vulcans registered their first victory of the season against a NCAA Division I opponent on Friday afternoon, collecting a 9-0 win against Villanova at Glen Creek Tennis Club.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team improves to 3-2 overall after totaling six wins against NCAA Division I programs last year. Meanwhile, Villanova drops to 0-2 this season.
The Vulcans swept doubles play for the second time this year, losing only seven games in three matches. At the first position, junior

Alexandra Borgenhoff (Alingsas, Sweden/Katrinelund) posted an 8-4 victory over Allison Kuse and Sydney West, while senior
Jade Pondicas (Johannesburg, South Africa/British International Distance) and sophomore
Jesse Burrell (Perth, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies' College) recorded an 8-2 win against Anne Cognetti and Wesleigh Donadio.
The Vulcans collected four victories, including four in straight sets. Sipkova claimed a 7-5, 6-0 victory at the first position against Mancini, while Czakon cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Smyth at second singles. Borgenhoff registered a victory against Kuse at the third slot by an 8-2 count.
Rey posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Donadio at fourth singles and Pondicas tallied a 6-1, 6-1 victory versus Cognetti while making her spring debut in singles action. Burrell earned a win by walkover over West at the sixth slot.
Cal U returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 24, when it travels to face Bowling Green, another NCAA Division I opponent, at 11 a.m.
