Bloomsburg holds off Vulcan rally, 3-2

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 12) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team was defeated by Bloomsburg, 3-2, Saturday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.

The loss drops the Vulcans to 5-6-1 overall this season with a 2-2-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Huskies improve to 2-4-1 in the PSAC and 4-8-1 overall.

Cal U took an early lead on a goal by senior Gaby Deller-Borgono (Toronto, Ontario/Oakwood C.I.) in the 14th minute of the match when he took a pass from junior Jeffrey Kyei (Tübingen, Germany/SIT Tübingen) and scored on a breakaway, 1-0. Bloomsburg responded less than three minutes later, tying the game on a free kick to tie the game.

The Huskies tacked on two more goals early in the second half to take a 3-1 lead. The Vulcans answered back with a goal in the 81st minute on a deflected kick from junior Tyler Woolum (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln).

Cal U held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Huskies and outshot Bloomsburg by a 19-13 margin.

The Vulcans will remain on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 16, against Mercyhurst at 3 p.m.
