Women's Soccer extends win streak, 5-0

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Oct. 11) – Freshmen Marissa Antrilli (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and Abbey Miltko (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) were among the five different players to score a goal on Friday evening, as the No. 13 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team extended its win streak to eight games with a 5-0 victory at Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 8-2-1 this season behind a 7-1 mark in league action. Cal U has allowed just one goal during its winning streak and recorded seven-consecutive shutouts. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles fall to 4-6-1 overall with a 3-6-1 record in conference play.

Cal U opened the scoring in the 24th minute when sophomore Janelle McCann (Burlington, Vt./Tilton School) moved into a tie for the team lead with her fifth goal of the year off a corner kick by classmate Marissa Neifert (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff). Following halftime, the Vulcans added to their lead at the 58:38-mark when freshman Danielle Kearns (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) scored off a cross from junior Jordan Gray (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary).

Cal U later stretched the lead to 5-0 with a trio of goals in a span of 16 minutes. Antrilli scored her first career goal in the 66th minute with an assist from junior Bethany Smyda (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford), who recorded a goal at the 77:01-mark following a feed from classmate Haley Henderson (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton). Miltko closed the scoring by posting an unassisted goal from 30 yards out after collecting a loose ball in the 82nd minute.

Freshman Meghan Jayes (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) registered her second shutout of the year after making a season-high six saves. Cal U finished the game with an 18-10 advantage in shots and teams combined for only three corner kicks.

The Vulcans continue their weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel to face Bloomsburg at 5:30 p.m.
