CALIFORNIA (Jan. 12) – The Vulcans were limited to their lowest point total of the season on Saturday night, suffering an 82-50 loss to Shippensburg at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team falls to 10-3 this season with a 6-3 mark in league action. Meanwhile, Shippensburg improves to 9-5 overall behind a 5-4 record in conference play.

Ayonna Richardson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) led the team and established career highs with 11 points and eight points off the bench. Senior
Stephanie Michael (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) finished with 10 points on just 3-of-14 shooting, while sophomore
Emma Mahady (Albury, Australia/Xavier) added seven points and three steals in the loss.
Shippensburg opened the game with a 15-5 run after Cal U made just 1-of-16 attempts from the field. After the Vulcans made two baskets in less than a minute, the Raiders scored 13-straight points to take a 32-10 lead with 6:20 left in the first half. Shippensburg maintained the sizeable lead, taking a 39-18 lead into halftime.
Midway through the second half, the Raiders mounted a 12-0 run in less than three minutes to stretch their lead to 68-33 with 7:20 remaining. Shippensburg maintained its 30-point lead for the remainder of the game, while Richardson scored nine of the team's final 13 points in the last four-plus minutes.
Cal U made just six field-goals in the first half and finished the game shooting just 22.9 percent (16-of-70), their lowest mark in recent program history. Meanwhile, Shippensburg shot 46.0 percent (23-of-50) from the floor and an impressive 91.2 percent (31-of-34) from the free-throw line after making its first 24 attempts.
Senior guards Shawna Wert and Dana Wert both scored 17 points, as five Raiders scored in double-digits. Junior Sarah Strybuc added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
Cal U returns to PSAC West play on Wednesday, Jan. 16, when it hosts No. 16 IUP in the Convocation Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
