With the corners playing even with the bases, Taylor induced a sharp ground-out to Gasti followed by a pop-up to end the inning without allowing a run.

However, the Lakers tied the game in the fifth with a two-out RBI shortstop Zak Blair, who was thrown out at second when trying to advance on a pitch in the dirt. Cal U reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning after two wild pitches allowed sophomore left fielder Ben Carson (Coal Center, Pa./California) to score from second, 2-1. In the seventh, designated hitter Anthony Tomasone drew a two-out walk and stole second before scoring on an RBI single by second baseman Kolin McMillen to tie the game at 2-2.The Vulcans attempted to manufacture a run in the bottom of the inning before Carson was tagged out in a rundown between third and home to end the inning.
