CALIFORNIA (Nov. 11) – In a rematch of last week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship, the No. 16 California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Slippery Rock in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

With the loss, the Vulcans finish the year with a 16-5-1 overall record after making their fourth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Cal U has suffered back-to-back losses at home for the first time since the 2007 season. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock improves to 14-5-3 this season and advances to face West Chester in third round next weekend.

Similar to last week's PSAC Championship, both teams battled to a scoreless first half. The best scoring opportunity for Cal U came in the 22nd minute on a shot attempt that sailed wide right by sophomore Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), who finished the year tied for first in single-season school history with 14 assists. The Rock looked to take the lead five minutes later before they were whistled for offside shortly after a corner kick.

Slippery Rock tallied the only goal of the game at the 48:02-mark when Crysta Ganter scored her third goal of the year right before being tackled by junior goalkeeper Ashley Magruda (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) near the top of the box. Ganter looked to add to the lead three minutes later before being blocked by a Cal U defender. After the Vulcans were issued two yellow cards, senior Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) missed high on a free kick before missing wide left on another shot attempt less than two minutes later.

Magruda posted two saves in the losing effort and finished the season with a 0.83 goals-against average (GAA), the fourth-best mark in school history. Rock junior Dana O'Neill made four saves while recording her 10th shutout of the season.

The Vulcans held a 10-8 advantage in shots, posting five in each half, and The Rock collected a 5-1 edge on corner kicks.
