VERONA, Pa. (April 21) – Junior
Paul Babashanian (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) claimed medalist honors on Monday, as the California University of Pennsylvania men's golf team concluded the regular season with a third-place finish at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, hosted at the par-70 Longue Vue Club.
The Vulcans finished the one-day event in third place with a 32-over 312. Washington & Jefferson won the event by seven strokes behind four top-eight finishers, posting a 22-over 302. Babashanian took home medalist honors for the first time this season after firing a season-best score of two-over 72 (35-37).
Redshirt freshman
Chris Tull (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) finished in a three-way tie for eighth place, carding a seven-over 77 (39-38) in a field of 29 golfers. Junior
Austin Stoddard (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) concluded the event in a tie for 13th place with a nine-over 79 (42-37) at Carnegie Mellon.
Freshman
Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) carded a 14-over 84 (43-41) to tie for 19th place, and redshirt freshman
Campbell Quirk (Queensland, Australia/Sunshine Coast) registered a 24-over 94 (48-46) in the final invitational of the regular season.
Freshman
Dylan Firmstone (Greensburg, Pa./Mount Pleasant) also competed in the event as an individual, finishing tied with Stoddard in 13th place with a nine-over 79 (41-38).
The Vulcans, who were fifth in the Atlantic Regional rankings as of April 15, now will wait if they are selected to compete at the NCAA Regionals.
