WHEELING, W.Va. (April 8) – Led by top-10 finishes from juniors
Chaz Ekoniak and
Jacob Pedley, the Vulcans placed second in a field of over 15 teams on Wednesday at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Spring Classic hosted by Wheeling.
TEAM NOTES
• The California (PA) men's golf team shot a four-over 572 (288-284) while playing the Palmer Course at Oglebay Resort.
• The Vulcans tied for the lowest score in the final round at even-par 284.
• Glenville State captured the invitational title by eight strokes with a four-under 564 (278-286) in a field of 17 teams.
• Davis & Elkins ranked third in the team standings on Wednesday after shooting an eight-over 576 (292-284).
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Ekoniak tied for second on the individual leader board with a four-under 138 (69-69).
• He tied Pedley for the tournament lead with 24 pars over two rounds, while his eight birdies tied for the team lead.
• Ekoniak previously captured medalist honors this fall at an event hosted by Wheeling at Belmont Hills Country Club.
• Pedley recorded a back-to-back, top-10 individual finish after shooting an even-par 142 (72-70).
• He carded an eagle on the par-five eighth on Monday and added a combined five birdies at the event.
• Sophomore
Nixen Erdely, who was playing as an individual, recorded an ace in the second round on the par-three, 170-yard ninth.
• Erdely and junior
Gavin Goodrich, who eagled the par-five, 522-yard 14th in the second round, both tied for 15th place with a three-over 145.
• Glenville State sophomore Fermin Perez Santandrea earned medalist honors by one stroke with a five-under 137 (68-69) while playing in a field of 99 golfers.
