MIDDLETOWN, Del. (April 2) – Redshirt freshman
Chris Tull (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) posted one of best individual rounds by the Vulcans in recent years, finishing third on the leaderboard at the 36-hole Wilmington (Del.) Spring Classic, hosted at Frog Hollow Golf Course on Saturday.
The California University of Pennsylvania men's golf team completed the two-round invitational with a 27-over 595 (305-290) to place fourth in the seven-team field. The host Wildcats won the event by 18 strokes with a four-under 564 (284-280) after featuring five of the top-10 golfers. Wilmington boasted the top two finishers with sophomore Daniel Ott claiming medalist honors by carding a seven-under 135 (68-67).
Tull posted an even-par 142 finish (74-68), including an impressive three-under 68 in the second round that tied for the second-lowest round of the event. The 6-2 redshirt freshman has been the Vulcans' low player in two of the three spring invitationals after finishing second on the team at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in the fall.
Junior
Paul Babashanian (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) completed the event tied for 17th with an eight-over 150 (77-73), while sophomore
Evan Matoske (Jensen Beach, Fla./Heritage Academy/Jensen Beach) finished one-stroke behind with a nine-over 151 (78-73) to tie for 20th.
Sophomore
Justin Newbauer (Georgetown, Pa./South Side) and freshman
Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) finished 26th and 27th, respectively, with Newbauer carding a 14-over 156 (80-76) and Erlichman posting a 15-over 157 (76-81).
The Vulcans return to the links tomorrow, Sunday, April 3, when they take part in the two-day Edwin Cottrell Invitational hosted by West Chester.
