Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y. (Nov. 18) – Senior Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) tied the single-season school record for goals on Friday afternoon and the No. 2 Vulcans broke the school mark for wins in a season with a 2-0 victory over No. 23 Slippery Rock in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, which was hosted by Saint Rose.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 20-0-2 and breaks the previous school record for wins set in 2009 (19-6-1). The Vulcans will now face the host Golden Knights in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. This marks the second time in three seasons in which Cal U has faced Saint Rose in the quarterfinals with the Golden Knights posting a 1-0 win in 2009.

The Vulcans took an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on Friday when Robinson tied the school record with her 19th goal this year off assists from sophomore Chelsea Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J./Woodstown) and freshman Erin Hogan (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), who now leads the team with 12 assists.

Robinson and junior Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) have each scored 19 goals this year, which ties the single-season mark shared by Sherry Valera (1994) and Amanda Heister (2009). In her first year with the program, Robinson leads NCAA Division II with eight game-winning goals.

Two minutes later, senior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) made a diving save on a shot attempt by Slippery Rock's Erin Storck to preserve the shutout. Cal U added to its lead at the 26:33-mark when senior Chaning Wimer (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) scored her third goal of the year on a header following a corner kick by junior Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold).

"I thought we dominated the majority of the game. There was stretch in the second half where we took our foot off the gas, but apart from that they didn't create much," said head coach Al Alvine, the 2011 PSAC Coach of the Year. "Credit to their goalkeeper for keeping them in the game."

Jackson finished the game with two saves to register her ninth shutout of the season and 34th of her career. The Rock's Lisa Rodgers posted five saves in the losing effort.

Cal U out-shot Slippery Rock by a 16-8 margin, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Vulcans also held a sizeable 9-2 advantage in corner kicks on Friday.

In five post-season games this year, the Vulcans have out-scored their opponents by a combined 13-3 margin and have registered back-to-back shutouts in the NCAA Tournament. Cal U now has an unbeaten streak of six games against Slippery Rock.

Meanwhile, The Rock finishes the season at 16-5-2 overall after advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
