SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Sept. 24) – In a meeting of the last two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champions, freshman Russell Bootwright (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) scored on a header to lift the Vulcans to a 1-0 double-overtime victory against No. 13 Slippery Rock on Friday evening.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team improves to 4-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, Slippery Rock drops to 5-2-1 this season with a 3-2 league mark. The victory marked was the first double-overtime win for the Vulcans since October 2008 at Wheeling Jesuit.

Bootwright scored his first career game-winning goal in the 104th minute off a cross from classmate Gaby Deller-Borgono (Toronto, Ontario/Oakwood C.I.).

At the end of regulation, the two teams were scoreless after the Vulcans out-shot The Rock by a 10-6 margin. In the first overtime period, Cal U looked to take the lead at the 91:27-mark when a shot by sophomore Chris Moehler (Centreville, Va./Paul VI Catholic) was blocked. Nearly five minute later, senior goalkeeper Derek Yobbi (South Park, Pa./South Park) kept the game scoreless with a save before another Cal U shot missed high in the 97th minute.

In the second overtime, a shot attempt senior Spencer Crider (Orrstown, Pa./Chambersburg) was saved at the 103:07-mark before Bootwright hit the game-winner a little over a minute later.

Yobbi earned his career-high fourth shutout of the season (11th overall) after making two saves on seven shot attempts in 104-plus minutes of action. Slippery Rock's Greg Blum finished with six saves and one goal allowed on 14 attempts.

After totaling four shots in overtime, Cal U finished the game with a 14-7 advantage in shots. Slippery Rock held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks in the loss.

The Vulcans continue their weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Lock Haven. Last season, Cal U swept the season series against Lock Haven behind a pair of one-goal victories.
