Cal U picked second in PSAC preseason poll

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Aug. 19) – The eighth-ranked Vulcans received several first-place votes and were picked to finish second in the preseason Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) poll, the league office announced on Thursday.

The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team received five of the 15 first-place votes after winning its first-ever PSAC West title last season. After winning three of the last four league championships, No. 16 West Chester garnered the top spot with nine first-place votes. IUP was ranked third, while No. 22 Kutztown received the other first-place vote to finish fourth in the preseason poll.

Last season, the Vulcans finished with a 19-6-1 overall record and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament in their first-ever post-season appearance. Cal U returns 10 from last season, including All-PSAC West selections Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust), Kayla Klimasko (Mississauga, Ontario/Woodlands Secondary), Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) and Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell).

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Al Alvine, Cal U opens its regular season on Sept. 2 when it travels to face Seton Hill at 4 p.m.
