Cal U selected as host for opening rounds

Opening-Round Information

INDIANAPOLIS (April 28) – The No. 8 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team was selected as a preliminary-round host for the NCAA Division II Championships on Wednesday evening, as announced by a live webcast on NCAA.com

The Vulcans (21-5) are making their sixth-consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament after winning their fourth-straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Team Championships last weekend to earn the league's automatic qualifier (AQ). Cal U has made the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last eight seasons under head coach Pablo Montana.

Cal U will host a five-team bracket at the new tennis complex at Roadman Park from May 6-8 and will face the winner of the play-in match between Mercyhurst (16-7) and East Stroudsburg (14-8). The other first-round match on Friday features West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC)-members Charleston (W.Va.) (21-7) and West Virginia State (15-9).

The winner of the Saturday match at Roadman Park will advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA National Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla., from May 12-15. The Vulcans have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament twice in the last three seasons.

Saturday, May 8
Match 4 – Winner of Match 2 vs. Winner of Match 3 – 10 a.m.
