DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 9) – The No. 13 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team registered a dominant performance with a sweep of the doubles matches and six straight-set singles wins to cruise to a 9-0 win over No. 29 Augusta State on Tuesday morning.
The win moves to the Vulcans to 9-3 overall this season with an impressive 4-1 mark during Spring Break play, all against nationally-ranked opponents. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have lost two of their last three matches to fall to 6-3 this year.

Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania/Technical) teamed up for an 8-6 win over Marina Ferreria and Bianca Machado. Freshman

Anastassiya Zherdeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) blanked Victoria Lindqvist and Katon Sanders 8-0 at second doubles, while freshman

Mariana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Martha Falcao) defeated Camila Correa and Luiza Pires by an 8-1 count at the third position.
The Vulcans cruised through singles play with six straight-set victories to clinch the shutout. Playing at first singles for the first time in her career, Bornefeld knocked of Lindqvist by a 6-4, 6-2 count. Zherdeva dealt Ferreria a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at the second position and Pondicas posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Machado at third singles.
Playing at the fourth position, 29th-ranked Stanila posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Correa. Junior
Galina Vishnikina (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Sport Military) surrendered nothing at fifth singles, winning by a 6-0, 6-0 count over Sanders, and Oliveira notched her third dual-match win of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Pires at the sixth position.
Cal U returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 10, when it faces Embry-Riddle (Fla.) in Daytona Beach, Fla., at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles, who are one of the top NAIA programs in the country, won their conference tournament last year and feature two nationally-ranked singles players.
