MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 5) – The No. 13 Vulcans claimed five of six singles matches on their way to an 8-1 win at No. 22 Florida Tech during Spring Break play on Friday afternoon.
With its second-straight victory, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team improves to 8-2 overall with a 2-1 mark against nationally-ranked opponents. Meanwhile, Florida Tech had its three-match win streak snapped to fall to 8-4 this season.

Julia Cohen (Philadelphia, Pa./Laurel Springs/Miami (Fla.)) and
Jutta Bornefeld (Varel, Germany) knocked off Natalia Ramos and Abigail Greif by an 8-3 count at the first slot. Cal U's ninth-ranked junior duo of
Nina Kowalski (Hofheim, Germany/Man Taunus) and
Laurie Navarro (Eysus, France/Jules Supervielle) posted an 8-6 at the second slot over the Panthers' Katarina Huba and Stephanie Dohner. Cal U finished off the sweep at third doubles where sophomores
Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania/Technical) and
Anastassiya Zherdeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) claimed an 8-6 win over Florida Tech's duo of Andrea Madrigal and Monica Price.
At first singles, Cohen posted her second-straight win over a nationally-ranked opponent as she dealt 13th-ranked Ramos a 6-0, 6-1 defeat on Friday. Kowalski, the 36th-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II, knocked off Rollins' Madrigal at second singles by a 6-4, 6-4 count.
Bornefeld earned her sixth victory of the spring as she dealt Greif a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at fourth singles. Cal U's 29th-ranked Stanila knocked off Price at fifth singles by a 6-2, 6-1 count, while freshman
Jade Pondicas (Johannesburg, South Africa) posted a 6-0, 6-2 win against Dohner at sixth singles.
The Vulcans return to action tomorrow, Saturday, March 7, when they travel to Orlando to face defending-National Champion and No. 1-ranked Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) at 2 p.m. The match marks a rematch of last season's NCAA Quarterfinals in which the Pirates posted a 5-0 win.
