CALIFORNIA (March 2) – Senior guard Brooque Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) became the all-time leading scorer in school history on Tuesday night, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team claimed a 72-49 win over rival IUP in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.

With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 22-6 overall this season and will face West Chester in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament on Friday, March 5, at the Hammermill Center in Erie, Pa. The Golden Rams posted a thrilling 83-77 double-overtime win over PSAC East-champion Millersville on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the Crimson Hawks finish the season with a 17-10 overall record.

Williams finished with a game-high 27 points (16 first-half points) to become the all-time leading scorer with 2,118 points, surpassing the previous school record set by Sara McKinney (2002-05) by one point. Williams made 11-of-21 attempts from the floor and four-of-five from the free-throw line against the Crimson Hawks. She also added nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while playing 39 minutes.

The trio of junior forward Kayla Smith (Elkins, W.Va./Elkins), redshirt sophomore forward Amy Johns (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport/Xavier) and sophomore guard Danielle Luckett (Chicago, Ill./James Hubert Blake) joined Williams in double-figures for the Vucans. Johns finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while Smith posted 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Luckett added 10 points and six assists in a career-high 26 minutes off the bench.

Smith also moved up the school's record book on Tuesday night. The 5-11 forward now ranks seventh in school history with 1,492 career points, as she moved passed by former guard Megan Storck (2003-06).

After IUP took a slim lead in the first three minutes of the game, Cal U mounted an 18-4 rally to take a 22-10 lead with 7:24 left before halftime. During the run, the Vulcans made 8-of-15 shots, Williams scored 11 of the team's 18 points and the Crimson Hawks committed 11 turnovers. Cal U stretched its first-half lead to as many as 17 points, 36-19, after scoring the final five points before the break.

The Crimson Hawks cut the deficit to 11 points early in the second half before the Vulcans engineered an 11-4 run to claim an 18-point lead, 53-35, with 11:30 remaining. After Smith was forced to the bench due to foul trouble, IUP again trimmed the deficit to 11 points before Cal U scored six-straight points, 61-44, with Williams tying the school record on an acrobatic jumper with 5:02 left in the game. Williams then broke the all-time scoring mark on a free-throw with 3:44 remaining. After a basket by the Crimson Hawks, the Vulcans scored 10 of the last 12 points in the game to claim the 72-49 victory.

In the win, Cal U made 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the field and 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from the three-point territory. Meanwhile, IUP shot at a 33.3 clip (19-of-57) from the floor and just 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from beyond the arc.

Junior guard Eryn Withers accounted for nearly half of the Crimson Hawks' scoring, finishing with 23 points on 9-of-20 shooting. She was the lone player for IUP to score in double figures.

The Vulcans out-rebounded the Crimson Hawks by a 41-35 margin and also held a 38-28 advantage in points in the paint. Cal U also forced IUP into 20 turnovers (14 first-half turnovers), which were converted into 19 points off turnovers.

Cal U swept the regular-season series and posted its first-ever post-season victory over IUP. The Crimson Hawks had previously defeated the Vulcans in the last three PSAC Championship games.

The Vulcans will now face West Chester for the second time this season on Friday, March 6, in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament. Cal U posted a 77-65 victory over West Chester at Hamer Hall earlier this season. The Vulcans hold a 14-2 advantage in the all-time series against the Golden Rams and have both post-season meetings.
