CALIFORNIA (Feb. 17) - Senior guard Brooque Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) became just the second player in school history to score 2,000 career points on Wednesday evening, as the California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team posted a 75-56 win over rival IUP at Hamer Hall in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

With the win, the Vulcans moved into a tie with the Crimson Hawks for second place in the league standings with an 8-3 league record and three games remaining in the regular season. Cal U improves to 18-6 overall this season, while IUP falls to 15-8 after having its five-game win streak snapped on Wednesday. Both teams also are ranked in the latest NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings with the Vulcans remaining at the second spot, while the Crimson Hawks debuting at the 10th position.

Williams finished with a game-high 27 points (17 in the first half) on 13-of-25 shooting. She joins Sara McKinney (2002-05) as the only 2,000-point scorers in school history and is one of only 11 players in league history to reach the scoring milestone. After collecting four rebounds on Wednesday, Williams also moved into second place in school history with 964 rebounds to surpass Traci Cox (1990-94).

Redshirt sophomore Amy Johns (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and junior forward Kayla Smith (Elkins, W.Va./Elkins) finished with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in the win. Senior guard Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa./Johnstown/Pitt-Johnston) recorded 10 points, five rebounds and seven assists against IUP.

Trailing by six points midway through the second half, the Vulcans regained the lead and seized control of the game with a 17-2 run over a span of 4:40 to take a 58-49 lead with 8:03 remaining. During the rally, Andrews and sophomore guard Danielle Luckett (Chicago, Ill./James Hubert Blake) combined to score 15 of the 17 points. Andrews posted eight of her 10 points and Luckett scored all seven of her points during the four-plus minute span.

After a basket by IUP made it a 58-51 contest, Cal U countered with a game-sealing 14-3 rally over a six-plus minute stretch to expand its lead to 72-54 with 1:52 left in the game.

In the win, Cal U posted its fourth-highest shooting performance of the year by finishing with a 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the floor. After shooting less than 20 percent in the second half, IUP finished the game with a .323 field-goal percentage (20-of-62) and only 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from three-point territory.

Freshman forward Sarah Pastorek recorded a double-double off the bench for the Crimson Hawks, finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow reserves Eryn Withers and Katelyn Marshall added 11 points and eight points, respectively.

The Vulcans were out-rebounded for the only the fifth time this season (4-1), as the Crimson Hawks held a 38-31 advantage on the glass behind 19 offensive rebounds. Despite the deficit in rebounds, Cal U held a sizeable 42-26 edge in points in the paint. The Vulcans also benefited with 32 points off turnovers after forcing the Crimson Hawks into 23 turnovers.

Cal U returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 20, when it hosts Edinboro for Senior Day at 5 p.m. The Vulcans posted a 69-52 win earlier this season at Edinboro and have swept the season series with the Fighting Scots four times in the last six seasons.
