The Vulcans are making their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and hosting their first NCAA Tournament game. Slippery Rock advanced to the game by defeating West Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1, on Friday afternoon.

Cal U earned the most all-PSAC selections as it posted seven players on the all-conference team, highlighted by the Freshman of the Year, Bethany Smyda (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford). Joining Smyda on the first team were senior Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca) and juniors Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) and Kayla Klimasko (Mississauga, Ontario/Woodlands Secondary). A trio of Vulcans were named third-team All-PSAC as juniors Sara DiBenedetto (Maple, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) and Kristen Orrett (Pickering, Ontario/Pickering) joined sophomore Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) in receiving the honors.

Smyda leads both the team and conference in scoring this year, tallying 16 goals and 10 assists for 42 points. Regney is tied for second in the conference with a career-high nine assists.  The senior, who ranks sixth all-time in points in school history, has also collected eight goals in 2010.

For the season, a total of 12 players have tallied multiple goals for fourth-year head coach Al Alvine. The Vulcans are out-scoring opponents 59-7 this season while out-shooting their opponents by a substantial 493-147 margin.

Defensively, Jackson has been strong in goal behind an overwhelming defense breaking her own school-record by posting 13 shutouts en route to an 18-1-2 record. In over 1,880 minutes of play, the Academic All-District keeper has allowed just six goals (0.29 goals against average) while posting 65 saves and a .915 save percentage. Through Nov. 7, Jackson's GAA and save percentage rank third in the nation in Division II.

Slippery Rock enters the second-round match-up with Cal U riding a 14-game unbeaten streak.  The Rock used goals from three different players to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1, in the first round on Friday afternoon at Roadman Park.

For the season, sophomore Shelby Ward leads SRU in both goals and points with 10 and 21, respectively. Seven different players have scored multiple goals this season for head coach Noreen Herlihy, who is in her 15th season at the helm.

Sophomore Dana O'Neill anchors The Rock defense in goal, appearing in 15 games this season with 14 starts. She has allowed just 10 goals in over 1,300 minutes of play, posting a 0.68 GAA and .800 save percentage en route to a 9-2-2 record.
