BELLE VERNON, Pa. (Oct. 4) – Junior Paul Babashanian (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and freshman Adam Jeffery (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) tied for eighth place on Monday at Cedarbrook Golf Course, as the Vulcans finished second at their host invitational presented by Dr. Diane Nettles and the College of Education and Human Services, which featured 14 teams.

The California University of Pennsylvania men's golf team shot a 23-over 879 (293-281-305) to finish second in the team standings behind champion Wilmington (Del.), who shot an astounding one-under 855 (277-286-292). The Vulcans jumped past rival IUP in the final round, as the Crimson Hawks finished with a 25-over 881 (280-289-312). Clarion (285-298-301-884) and Allegheny (291-291-306-888) rounded out the top five in the team standings.

Babashanian (73-69-76) and Jeffery (74-69-75) each shot a four-over 218 to finish eighth overall among the 80 golfers. Both players finished with a score of two-under 69 in the second round, which was the second-lowest total in the round.

Redshirt freshman Chris Tull (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) carded an eight-over 222 (72-73-77) to tie for 13th overall, while freshman Mike Yavorsky (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) finished one stroke back of Tull at nine-over 223 (76-70-77). Sophomore Justin Newbauer (Georgetown, Pa./South Side) rounded out the players for the Vulcans, shooting a 15-over 229 (74-75-80).

Wilmington's Paul Tighe earned medalist honors by one stroke over teammate Nick Mafaele after carding a six-under 208 (67-68-73).

Cal U is scheduled to conclude its fall season when it competes at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, which will be held at the Hershey Links on Oct. 16-17 in Hummelstown, Pa.
