Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 30) – The Vulcans finished the regular season on a high note, defeating Shippensburg, 2-0, in the final regular season conference game before the post-season tournament.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 16-1-1 overall and 12-1-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. The win breaks the school record for victories in the regular season, set last year when the Vulcans won 15 games. Cal U also finishes the regular season with an unblemished road record of 9-0-0. Shippensburg falls to 10-7-1 overall and 7-7-0 in league play.

The Vulcans scored both of their goals early before coasting to the victory. The first goal came just 2 minutes, 9 seconds into the game when senior Carina Honeygosky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) scored her second goal of the season after redirecting a shot from junior Kayla Klimasko (Mississauga, Ontario/Woodlands Secondary) following a corner kick by junior Darija Davidson (Courtice, Ontario/St. Stephen's). At the 5:32-mark, Cal U scored its second goal when freshman Bethany Smyda (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) tallied her conference-leading 16th goal of the season off of Klimasko's second assist of the afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) earned the victory in net to improve her record to 16-1-1 in 2010. She made three saves in the contest en route to posting her 10th shutout, a regular-season school record and two shy of the season mark of 12 which she set last season.

For the game, the Vulcans held a firm 26-6 advantage on shots and 5-0 edge on corner kicks. During the regular season, Cal U out-shot its opponents 453-121 and took 108 corner kicks while their opponents attempted just 28.

The PSAC Tournament has been set with the eight seeds decided. Cal U has clinched the second seed and will host seventh-seeded Indiana (Pa.) at Roadman Park on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. The game marks the second-ever home post-season contest for the women's soccer program. The four remaining teams will then travel to the highest-remaining seed on Friday, Nov. 5 for the semifinals with the finals to be held on Saturday, Nov. 6.
