CALIFORNIA (Sept. 8) – Three California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer players tallied first-period goals to lead the No. 10 Vulcans past Gannon, 3-1, on Tuesday at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

Cal U improves to 4-0 overall this season, including a 3-0 mark in divisional action. Meanwhile, Gannon falls to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in league play.

The Vulcans started the scoring when junior Carina Honeygosky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin/Indiana (Pa.)) tallied the first goal of her Cal U career in the seventh minute. Cal U expanded its lead to 2-0 at the 20:15-mark when junior Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca/Pittsburgh) registered her third goal of the season off an assist from Honeygosky.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Golden Knights answered with a goal by sophomore Katie Urban before the Vulcans countered with a goal by senior Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon) off a feed from sophomore Jodi McDonald (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax) in the 32nd minute.

Sophomore Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) , who was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, collected five saves, while the Golden Knights' Sabrina Chirco recorded 11 saves.

With her goal, Heister became only the fourth player in program history and first since Brianne Plute (2000-03) to register 70 career points. In her career, the senior forward has 27 goals and 16 assists for 70 points in 59 career games.

Cal U out-shot Gannon by a commanding 24-14 and also took three corner kicks. The two teams were whistled for a combined 33 fouls and four different players received a yellow card.

The nationally-ranked Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they travel to Erie to face Mercyhurst, the defending-PSAC Champion. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
