INDIANA, Pa. (Sept. 22) – In a match-up of Top 25 teams and two of the top three teams in the Atlantic Region, the No. 11 Vulcans claimed a 2-1 win against No. 23 IUP on Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team expanded its lead to five points in the PSAC West standings over IUP and idle Mercyhurst. The Vulcans now hold a 6-1 conference record with 18 points following the first-round of divisional play. Overall, Cal U improves to 7-1 overall, while IUP is 4-2-1 overall and in league action.

Brittany Sullivan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) gave the Vulcans a 1-0 lead at the 37:40-mark off an assist from freshman
Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell). After taking its lead into halftime, Cal U made it a 2-0 contest in the 52nd minute when sophomore
Chaning Wimer (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) tallied her first goal of the season off a feed from Work. The Crimson Hawks cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 60:18-mark with a goal by junior forward Allison Keller.

Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) earned the victory in net for Cal U, making eight saves and allowing one goal in 80 minutes of action. Freshman
Kendra Edwards (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) made her Vulcans' debut against the Crimson Hawks and recorded a save in nearly 10 minutes of play.
Cal U, who entered the game as the top-ranked team in the Atlantic region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), held a 22-17 advantage in shots and also took three corner kicks compared to the one by IUP, the third-ranked team in the region.
