SOUTH PARK, Pa. (April 10) – In a match-up of two of the top three teams in the Atlantic Region, the No. 12 California University of Pennsylvania tennis team extended its win streak to eight on Friday with a 9-0 victory over No. 35 University of Charleston (W.Va.) at the Glen Creek Tennis Club.
The Vulcans improve to 17-2 overall and maintain their hold of the top spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Rankings. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles fall to 17-7 after ranking third in the region at the beginning of the month.

Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania/Technical) earned an 8-3 victory over Charleston's Bre Moyle and Neha Rana – the third-ranked doubles team in the region. Sophomore
Nina Kowalski (Hofheim, Germany/Man Taunus) and freshman
Axelle Fernandez (Nice, France/Institut Familial) improved to 5-0 as a doubles team after dealing Katie Kim and Alyssa Hackworth an 8-2 defeat at the second slot. Sophomore
Galina Vishnikina (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Sport Military) and freshman
Mariana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Martha Falcao) clinched the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win against the Golden Eagles' Alexa Kay and Sarah Monsheimer.
In singles action, VanEysendeyk posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Moyle at the first position in a match-up of two of the top three singles players in the region. Stanila, the second-ranked singles player in the region, finished off Rana by a 6-0, 6-1 count at second singles.
Fernandez tacked on to the Vulcan lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hackworth at the third position. Kowalski out-lasted Monsheimer in the first set before claiming a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the fourth slot and sophomore
Laurie Navarro (Eysus, France/Jules Supervielle) topped Kay at sixth singles by a 6-2, 6-3 count.
Freshman
Anastassiya Zherdeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) improved to a combined 10-1 and 8-0 in singles play this year following a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kim.
Cal U meets Indiana University of Pennsylvania tomorrow, Saturday, April 11, for a 1 p.m. match in South Park, Pa., at Glen Creek. With a victory, the Vulcans would clinch the outright PSAC West title – their fifth-straight divisional crown.
