WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 6) – In their first action of the spring, the No. 9 Vulcans rallied with four singles wins after dropping the doubles points to post a tight 4-3 victory over Georgetown University at the East Potomac Tennis Center on Friday.
The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team improves to 5-0 in dual matches this season. The Vulcans have registered three victories against Division I programs with a pair of wins against Big East members – Georgetown and Villanova University. Cal U has won both its fall and spring openers in each of the last seven seasons.

Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania/Technical) posted an 8-3 win over sophomores Caroline Kuehn and Maxi Thiels.
VanEysendeyk earned her second victory of the afternoon with decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory against freshman Michelle Brown at No. 1 singles. Stanila tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win against freshman Aileen Shea at the second slot, while freshman
Axelle Fernandez (Nice, France/Institut Familial) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Thiels at No. 4 singles. At the third position, sophomore
Nina Kowalski (Hofheim, Germany/Man Taunus) split her first two sets (5-7, 7-0) with Georgetown's Kuehn before claiming the point with a 6-4 victory in the third set.
Sophomores
Galina Vishnikina (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Sport Military) and
Laurie Navarro (Eysus, France/Jules Supervielle) each battled their respective opponents to three sets before losing matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively.
Cal U continues play against Division I programs on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when it travels to face Youngstown State University.
