INSTITUE, W.Va. (Feb. 21) – The No. 9 Vulcans took all three doubles matches and swept the six singles matches to post a 9-0 victory over West Virginia State University on Saturday in a dual match between two Top 10 regionally-ranked teams.
The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team is the top-ranked program in the Atlantic Region, while West Virginia State is ranked fourth in the region. The Vulcans improve to 6-1 this season in dual matches this season, including a 3-1 mark against Division I opponents.

Helena VanEysendeyk (Meythet, France/Zurich International) and
Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania/Technical) posted an 8-1 win over junior Teddi Russell and freshma Brittany Craig, who are the ranked as the fifth-best doubles team in the Atlantic Region. Freshman
Axelle Fernandez (Nice, France/Institut Familial) and sophomore
Laurie Navarro (Eysus, France/Jules Supervielle) earned an 8-0 victory over sophomores Eben Russell and Meghan Stewart at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore
Nina Kowalski (Hofheim, Germany/Man Taunus) and freshman
Mariana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Martha Falcao) also registered an 8-0 sweep for the Vulcans with a win against freshman Erika Acosta and junior Emily Bowlin.
Singles play featured a match-up of two of the top 10 singles player in the region with VanEysendeyk and Craig at the No. 1 position. VanEysendeyk, the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic region, posted an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory over Craig, the seventh-ranked singles player in the region. Stanila knocked off Teddi Russell at scond singles, winning 6-3, 6-2. Kowalski added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Acosta at No. 3 singles.
Fernandez made short work of Eben Russell at the fourth slot, claiming a 6-1, 6-0 win. Navarro and Oliveira also earned straight-set victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
The Vulcans return to action on Friday, Feb. 27, when it faces No. 25 Augusta State University (Ga.) for a 10 a.m. match in Tampa, Fla. The match is the first-of-five spring break matches (four against nationally-ranked opponents) for the Vulcans in Florida.
