CALIFORNIA (Oct. 28) – California University of Pennsylvania senior forward Amanda Heister (Palmyra, Pa./Northern Lebanon) established a new career scoring record and helped lead the Vulcans to a 4-0 victory against rival IUP on Wednesday at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

With the victory, Cal U remains in a tie with Mercyhurst for first place in the PSAC West standings with 28 points behind a 9-3-1 divisional record. The Vulcans also improve to 14-4-1 overall this year. Meanwhile, IUP drops to second place in the league standings with an 8-4-1 league mark and 12-5-1 overall record.

Heister, who entered the week as the PSAC leader in goals and points, scored a career-high four goals against the Crimson Hawks for her first career hat trick. With the four goals, she is now the all-time leading goal scorer in program history (42). Heister broke the previous record of 40 set by both Sherry Valera (1992-95) and Brianne Plute (2000-03) in the second half on Wednesday. A three-time All-PSAC West selection, she currently ranks second in school history with 102 points behind only the record of 103 set by Valera. Heister now leads the Vulcans with 17 goals this season to rank third in single-season history.

The two teams played over 30 scoreless minutes before Heister scored her first goal of the game in the 32nd minute off an assist from junior Sam Regney (Monaca, Pa./Monaca). After out-shooting IUP by a sizeable 17-5 lead in the first half, Cal U held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Heister would then score three goals in less than 15 minutes beginning with her record-tying 40th career goal after a feed from sophomore Erin Feltz (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley). Heister then broke the record and completed her hat trick in the 83rd minute off a pass from freshman Kayla Fransko (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold). On Senior Day, she added an insurance goal at the 87:51-mark with an assist from freshman Carley Work (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell).

Sophomore goalkeeper Paula Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust) recorded her second-straight shutout and ninth of the year after making four saves in 90 minutes. IUP's Kelly Brennan finished with six saves in the loss.

For the game, the Vulcans held a sizeable 27-11 advantage in shots while the Crimson Hawks posted an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cal U concludes its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31, when it travels to face Clarion at 1 p.m. The Vulcans have already clinched their first-ever appearance in the PSAC Tournament, while their seeding in the tournament will be determined following weekend play throughout the league.
