No. 6 Vulcans cruise past Seton Hill, 81-43

CALIFORNIA (Nov. 25) – After making a season-high 10 three-pointers and with three players in double-figure scoring, the No. 6 California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball cruised to a 81-43 win over Seton Hill University at Hamer Hall on Tuesday.

The Vulcans improve to 4-1 on the season and are averaging 83.0 points per game. The Griffins fall to 1-2 on the year with their lone win coming on Saturday against Clarion University.

Junior Brooque Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) led all players with 21 points and 13 rebounds (four offensive) to register her third double-double of the season. The athletic 5-8 guard made 10-of-21 shot attempts and also collected five assists and three steals. In the second half, Williams grabbed nine of her 12 rebounds in only 12 minutes of action.

Sophomore forward Kayla Smith (Elkins, W.Va./Elkins) nearly posted a double-double of her own, finishing with eight points, 12 rebounds (five offensive) and seven assists.

Senior guard Crystal Andrews (Johnstown, Pa./Johnstown) drilled five-of-six attempts from beyond the arc to finish with 17 points, while sophomore guard Amber Dubyak (Hastings, Pa./Cambria Heights) recorded season-high totals of 13 points and eight rebounds.

After holding a slim 12-11 lead, the Vulcans scored 13 unanswered points on six-consecutive made shot attempts to increase their lead to 25-11 with 7:59 left in the half. Cal U continued its hot shooting throughout the final minutes of the period to take a 47-13 halftime lead. Over the last 10-plus minutes of the half, Cal U made 14-of-21 shot attempts and forced eight turnovers.

Cal U increased its lead to as many as 44 points twice in the second half, including 70-26, with 10:06 left in the game before the reserves played the final eight-plus minutes of the contest.

For the game, the Vulcans shot 47.1 percent (33-of-70) from the floor, including 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Griffins were limited to 28.1 percent (16-of-57) shooting and committed 24 turnovers.

Cal U held a sizeable 53-30 advantage on the glass, collecting 22 offensive rebounds that were converted into 20 second-chance points. The Vulcans also capitalized in transition, scoring 16 fast-break points.

Junior forward Katie Lintner was the lone Seton Hill player in double-figures, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Vulcans return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when they travel to face the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown for 7 p.m. contest.
