CLARION, Pa. (Oct. 7) – The No. 17 Vulcans used a pair of double-digit kill performances by junior
Ludmila Amaral (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Afonso Schimidt) and senior
Thais Franca (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Padre Manoel De Paiva) to claim a 3-1 victory (25-15, 25-12, 18-25, 25-23) over Clarion University on Tuesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
The victory moves the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team to 24-1 overall and 7-0 in divisional games this year, while Clarion falls to 11-11 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Amaral, who was named PSAC Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, registered a team-high 18 kills and seven blocks (three solo) and Franca set career highs with 14 kills and a .444 attack percentage. In addition to the Brazilian duo, three other Vulcans collected five kills in the victory.

Marta Hodge (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) recorded 31 digs.
Cal U returns to action on Friday Oct. 10, when it hosts Glenville State University for a non-divisional contest. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at Hamer Hall.
