Vulcans drop 1-0 decision to Pitt-Johnstown

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 29) – Playing without two of its top scorers, the California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Roadman Park against University of Pitt-Johnstown in non-conference action.

The Vulcans fall to 10-7-2 overall, while the Mountain Cats improve to 9-8-1 on the season.

Despite playing without two of the top players, Cal U controlled the pace of the game out-shooting UPJ by a 19-5 advantage. The Vulcans also held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

After a scoreless first period, the Mountain Cats broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal by freshman Joshua Wentz at the 60:01-mark.

Sophomore Derek Yobbi suffered the loss after allowing one goal on five shots in 61-plus minutes of action. UPJ goalkeeper Michael LoPresti recorded the shutout by collecting 12 saves on 19 shot attempts.

Senior Jeremy Blymiller led the Vulcans' offense with six shots, while classmate Brian Braithwaite attempted three shots.

Cal U concludes the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 1, with a 1 p.m. road contest against Slippery Rock University.
