BELLE VERNON, Pa. (Sept. 4) – Led by a trio of top-10 finishes, including medalist honors by senior Gavin Goodrich, the California (PA) men's golf team opened its fall season by winning its rain-shortened Vulcan Invitational at Cedarbrook Golf Course by 12 strokes on Friday.

TEAM NOTES
• The Vulcans carded the lowest score in each round while finishing with a nine-under 567 (284-283).
• Cal has won the event in consecutive appearances, as it also claimed the tournament in the fall of 2024 at Cedarbrook.
• West Liberty placed second in the standings with a three-over 579 (284-295), while Fairmont State (293-288) and the Cal 'B' team (290-291) tied for third place with a five-over 581.
• The event was scheduled for a 36-18 hole format; however weather prevented all 36 holes from being completed on Thursday, and the third round was cancelled after the golfers played a handful of holes due to weather again.
• The event featured 85 golfers from 12 different programs.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Goodrich claimed medalist honors for the first time in his career, winning the event by two strokes with a seven-under 137 (68-69).
• He started play on Thursday with an eagle on the par-five 582-yard 10th hole followed by three-straight birdies.
• Freshman Brady Newman, who was playing on the Cal 'B' team, placed second overall with a five-under 139 (71-68) in his college debut.
• Senior Anthony DePietress tied for third place at four-under 140 (71-69) and classmate Chaz Ekoniak tied for eighth overall after shooting a one-under 143 (70-73).

NEXT
• The Vulcans are idle for more than two weeks before playing at The Pines Country Club Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 21-22 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
