WACO, Texas (Sept. 8) – Following a Week 1 victory in a meeting of nationally-ranked teams, the California (PA) football team climbed four places to sit No. 10 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Poll on Monday afternoon.
The Vulcans opened the year with a 23-19 win over then-No. 12 Charleston (WV) last Thursday. With the victory, Cal moved into the top 10 of the national poll for the first time since the 2021 campaign when they reached as high as No. 3, matching the highest national ranking in program history. The Vulcans have been featured in the AFCA poll for eight-consecutive weeks dating back to last season.
Cal remains one of three programs from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) featured in the national rankings. Slippery Rock (1-0) remained No. 4 after opening the year with a 24-13 win at Franklin Pierce (NH) on Friday, while Kutztown (1-0) moved up one position to No. 6 after rolling to a 51-14 victory over Assumption (MA) on Thursday.
Additionally, the remainder of Super Region One boasts a pair of teams in the top 25 this week. Virginia Union (1-0) climbed one slot to No. 13 despite being idle, while Charleston (WV) (1-1) fell six positions to No. 18 after losing at Cal by four points on Thursday.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they host West Chester at Adamson Stadium with kickoff at 12 p.m.
