Cole Villa carded a team-best four-over 76 on Friday afternoon, as the California (PA) men's golf team dropped to eighth in the team standings during the second round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championships.
The Vulcans shot a 33-over 321 in the second round at Whispering Woods Golf Club. Cal dropped six spots in the team standings to eighth place with a 44-over 620 (299-321). Host Gannon climbed to first place by firing a one-over 289 on Friday and holds a six-stroke lead over the field at 12-over 588 (299-289). Davis & Elkins, the opening-round leader, sits second at the championship event with an 18-over 594 (294-300) and Charleston (WV) ranks third with a 34-over 594 (294-300).
Villa registered a four-over 74 in the second round and is tied for 16th overall on the leader board at seven-over 151 (75-76). He tallied 11 pars and a pair of birdies on Friday, including a birdie on the par-five 15th for a consecutive day. Villa entered the week ranked third on the team with a career-best scoring average of 76.3 strokes.
Sophomore
Gavin Goodrich is tied for 29th place with an 11-over 155 after posting a seven-over 79 on Friday. He collected a pair of birdies on the front nine to make the turn at two-over. Goodrich leads the team with 21 pars through two rounds at the regional championships.

Chaz Ekoniak carded an 11-over 83 in the second round and is tied for 46th overall with a 13-over 157 (74-83), while classmate
Anthony DePietress is one stroke back at 14-over 158 (74-84) and in 52nd place after shooting a 12-over 84 on Friday. Freshman
Nixen Erdely finished with an 11-over 83 on the second day of the event and is tied for 62nd overall at 16-over 160 (77-83).
D&E freshman Aidan Talent continues to hold the individual lead after shooting a one-over 73 on Friday. He fired four birdies on the front nine in the second round and holds a two-stroke lead with a three-under 141 (68-73).
Cal closes out the event tomorrow, Saturday, May 10, with its tee times starting at 11 a.m.
