D2CCA All-Region Teams

PITTSBURGH (March 16) – Following a standout junior campaign, California (PA) guard Donald Whitehead, Jr. earned Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) first-team all-region accolades on Friday morning.

With his selection, Whitehead is now eligible for D2CCA All-America consideration. The Vulcans have boasted three different players tabbed a first-team all-region honoree in the last four years, which ties for the most in the region during that span.

Whitehead was voted the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Year last week while also earning All-PSAC West First-Team status for the first time in his career. He ranked fourth in the league in scoring with 19.4 points per game after totaling 505 points despite missing four games due to injury. Whitehead tallied at least 20 points in 16 games, including a career-high 33 points at Slippery Rock. The Hickory product also finished third in the PSAC with 5.0 assists per game, plus was second with a 2.19 assist-to-turnover ratio. Whithead led the conference and ranked among the top 20 in NCAA Division II with 36:49 minutes per game.

A 5-foot-10 junior, Whitehead became the 31st player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone this year. He has averaged 14.5 points over 75 games in his career with 46 starts over the last two seasons. Additionally, Whithead has amassed 286 career assists after eclipsing the century mark for the first time this campaign.

Whitehead helped the Vulcans advance to the semifinals of the 2024 PSAC Tournament after finishing second in the divisional standings. Cal, which lost seven-straight games around the holidays, won 10 of its last 13 games in the regular season before earning a victory in the league tournament for the fifth-consecutive year.
