LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Feb. 10) – Behind a career-high performance, California (PA) junior guard Donald Whitehead, Jr. was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Whitehead averaged 26.5 points and 5.0 assists per game last week, as the Vulcans earned two victories to move into a tie for second place in the PSAC West standings. He shot 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the floor, including a .467 clip (7-of-15) from beyond the arc, while playing 39.0 minutes per game. Whitehead tallied 20 points, four assists, and two steals on Wednesday in a 74-53 win against Seton Hill. The Hickory product then set a career high with 33 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including four-of-nine from long range, and seven-of-seven from the free-throw line on Saturday. Whitehead scored 26 points in the second half and finished with six assists, as Cal erased a 20-point deficit to post an 86-73 victory at Slippery Rock.

A three-year starter, Whitehead leads the team and ranks seventh in the league with 20.0 points per game while already scoring a career-high 400 total points. He sits fourth in the conference with 4.7 assists per game and his 1.90 assist-to-turnover ratio is also among the top five in the league. Whitehead paces the PSAC with a .408 three-point percentage (60-for-147) and also ranks among the top 15 with a .443 field-goal percentage (132-of-298) and an .809 free-throw percentage (76-for-94).

Whitehead is the third different Cal player to be chosen the PSAC West Athlete of the Week this year. He received the weekly league accolade for the first time in his career.
