LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Nov. 3) – Following another kickoff return for a touchdown, California (PA) sophomore
Deontae Williams repeated as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Williams posted an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, as the Vulcans earned a 31-26 victory over then-No. 24 Frostburg State at Adamson Stadium on Saturday afternoon. He became the program's first player in at least two decades with multiple kickoff returns for touchdowns in a season. Additionally, Williams is the first PSAC player since 2023 to post at least two kickoff returns for scores in a year. The Woodland Hills product also added 53 yards on three punt returns and one rushing attempt for five yards against the Bobcats, which are tied for first place in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) standings.
A 6-foot-0 sophomore, Williams ranks second in NCAA Division II with 704 combined return yards this season. He stands sixth in the country with 560 kickoff return yards on 15 attempts and is one of 11 players nationally with multiple kickoff returns for touchdowns this year. Williams leads the team and ranks third in the PSAC with 127.0 all-purpose yards per game.
Williams becomes the third player in program history, and the first return specialist, to earn PSAC West Special Teams Athlete of the Week honors in consecutive weeks since the awards was established in 2015.
The Vulcans conclude PSAC West play on Saturday, Nov. 8, when they face Gannon in Erie, Pennsylvania, at 12 p.m. Despite sitting in a tie for fourth place in the divisional standings, Cal remains in contention for a berth in the NCAA Playoffs with the latest set of regional rankings scheduled to be released later on Monday.
