California slotted sixth in regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 3) – The California (PA) football team was slotted sixth in the initial ranked-order list of NCAA Division II Super Region One teams released on Monday afternoon.

The Super Region One rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Playoffs. Super Region One consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Mountain East Conference (MEC), Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) with eight of the 43 teams from the four leagues making the field for the NCAA Playoffs.

Beginning this year, each conference champion will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Playoffs, as Super Region One will include four automatic qualifiers and four at-large selections. The PSAC and CIAA both hold championship games, while the MEC and NE-10 will award their automatic berths to their regular-season champions.

Kutztown is the lone remaining undefeated teams in Super Region One – one of six unbeaten programs nationally – with two weeks left in the regular season. The Golden Bears garnered the top spot in the rankings on Monday after already securing a berth in the 2025 PSAC Championship. Virginia Union of the CIAA is ranked second, while fellow CIAA-member Johnson C. Smith sits third. The Panthers earned a head-to-head victory over the Golden Bulls in mid-September. Assumption of the NE-10 and IUP round out the top half of the rankings.

Cal, Slippery Rock, Frostburg State, Fayetteville State and Charleston (WV) complete the top 10 in the initial ranked-order list of the fall.

There are no Week 10 contests between regionally-ranked teams.

Among the teams featured in this week's rankings, the Vulcans boast the best opponent winning percentage (OWP)-opponents' opponent winning percentage (OOWP) at .597. Additionally, Cal holds the highest 'performance indicator' among the multi-loss teams in the region and its 25.000 rating ranks fifth-best overall in Super Region One.

Cal has two road games remaining in the regular season following a pivotal Week 9 victory over Frostburg State. The Vulcans close out divisional play on Saturday, Nov. 8, against Gannon in Erie, Pennsylvania, before traveling to Shippensburg on Nov. 15. The Golden Knights and Raiders have combined for just three victories this season.
