BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 14) – The Vulcans advanced a pair of singles entries and a doubles team to the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Championships over the weekend.
Junior transfer
Teddi Isherwood and junior
Diletta Maria Mungo both earned opening-round victories in the singles flight of the championships hosted by Bloomsburg. Isherwood registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Louise Boyer-Vidal of East Stroudsburg before falling to junior Dari Sakhanova of Slippery Rock by a 6-2, 6-4 margin. Mungo started play with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Mariaspa Kotsiou of Frostburg State before dropping a 6-4, 6-2 contest to Delaney Tingle of West Chester.
In doubles, Isherwood and junior
Leandra Guldimann opened the weekend with a 6-1 win against Lia-Sophie Seele and Dasha Nakonechna of Bloomsburg. The tandem later fell by a 6-4 count to top-seeded Ming Deewajee and Dani Ramos of IUP in the second round.
Mungo and sophomore
Lilli Schreiber dropped their first-round doubles match to Lieselotte Hartlohner and Annemiek Sterk of IUP by a 6-0 margin.
Additionally, Guldimann lost in the opening round of the singles bracket to eighth-seeded Nicole Kempton of Slippery Rock by a 6-1, 6-3 count.
The Vulcans return to dual play on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they travel to face Seton Hill in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, at 12 p.m.
