Preview: NCAA Subregional Tournament

CALIFORNIA (March 14) – The California (PA) men's basketball team returns to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years, and 15th time in program history, this weekend when it hosts a subregional of the Atlantic Region at the Convocation Center.

LOCATION
The Atlantic Subregional Tournament will be hosted by California in California, Pennsylvania, at the Convocation Center. This weekend marks the first-ever NCAA Tournament games hosted at the facility, which opened in the 2011-12 campaign.

TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets will be available for purchase at the door of the Convocation Center on day of game with sales beginning two hours before the first game. There will NOT be any online ticket sales. Fans will purchase a ticket each day of the tournament. Cash or credit/debit cards will be accepted but note there will be a processing fee for cards. Tickets are available at the prices of $10 general admission and $5 general admission for children/students with college ID. Note, the first 100 California students with college ID will receive free admission courtesy Student Activities Board and Student Government Association.

VIDEO OPTIONS ($$$)
Live video is available on a pay-per-view basis for the 2024 NCAA Tournament. A single-game pass is available for $9.95 plus fees and allows live access with the ability watch on-demand. There is also a NCAA Championships Pass for $29.95 plus fees that allows live and on-demand access to games from the first, second and third rounds of the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Additionally, there is a pass for $49.95 plus fees that allows live and on-demand access to both the 2024 NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments for the first, second and third rounds.

SCHEDULE
California is hosting a subregional for men's basketball this weekend at the Convocation Center due to Gannon serving as a subregional host for both men's basketball and women's basketball. At the Convocation Center, the men's tournament will feature games on Friday, March 15, at 5 p.m. [West Virginia State at California] and 7:30 p.m. [Concord vs Charleston]. The advancing teams will play in the regional semifinals on Saturday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. Location of the regional championship on Tuesday, March 19, will be determined by the advancing teams from the two subregional sites [Gannon, California].

THE FIELD
Scouting (2) California:
The Vulcans (27-4) enter the tournament after advancing to the PSAC Championship for the first time since 2008. California ranks among the top 15 in NCAA Division II in both field-goal percentage (.498) and field-goal percentage defense (.408) to out-score opponents by an average 12.6 points per game. Sophomore KJ McClurg leads the Atlantic Region and sits ninth in the country in scoring at 22.5 points per game behind 201 free-throws made, sixth-most in the nation.

Scouting (3) Charleston: The Golden Eagles (27-4) captured their first MEC Tournament Championship in a decade after previously advancing to the finals three times in five years from 2018-22. Charleston leads the country in field-goal percentage at a 51.7 clip and sits sixth in the nation with a plus-14.3 scoring margin. Senior Eddie Colbert III was chosen the MEC Player of the Year after leading the league with a .528 field-goal percentage while ranking fourth in scoring at 17.5 points per game.

Scouting (6) Concord: The Mountain Lions (22-7) earned an at-large berth after posting a 10-game winning streak in January and February. Concord leads NCAA Division II with 44.69 rebounds per game and ranks ninth in the country with 5.0 blocks per game. An All-MEC First-Team honoree, sophomore Kollin Tolbert leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Scouting (7) West Virginia State: The Yellow Jackets (20-9) earned an at-large berth after advancing to the semifinals of the MEC Tournament as the fourth seed. WVSU ranks among the top 15 in the nation in scoring offense at 87.1 points per game while making over 18 free-throws per game, eighth-best in the country. Senior Anthony Pittman earned All-MEC First-Team laurels for the third-straight year and averages 18.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.18 steals per game. He is the active leader in NCAA Division II with 1,053 rebounds, 245 steals and 37 double-doubles in his career.
