Bryson Lucas was tabbed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Lucas averaged 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 blocks per game, as the Vulcans registered a pair of wins in divisional play to extend their winning streak to five games. He also scored 14.5 points per game on a .706 field-goal percentage (12-of-17) and added 3.5 assists per game in 26.0 minutes per game. Lucas tallied nine rebounds, four blocks and a career-high six steals, plus tied his career high with 19 points and collected five assists, in an 86-71 win at Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday. The West Virginia native then registered seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals, along with 10 points and two assists, on Saturday in an 83-60 victory over Mercyhurst.
In his first year as a starter, Lucas leads the team and ranks among the top 15 in the PSAC with 6.2 rebounds per game. He also sits among the top 10 in the league with 1.88 steals and 1.19 blocks per game. Lucas is averaging 11.3 points per game while shooting 58.9 percent (119-of-202) from the floor.
Lucas is the first Cal player to garner PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week status this season.
The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 28, when they host IUP in the final regular-season game of the year at the Convocation Center, starting at 7:30 p.m.
