LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Dec. 23) – Behind a pair of 20-point, 10-rebound double-doubles, California (PA) sophomore forward
Dalman Alexander was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Alexander averaged 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game, as the Vulcans played three games over the last 10 days. He also averaged a double-double while scoring 15.0 points per game. Alexander set career highs with 21 points and 15 rebounds on Dec. 14 against Wilmington (DE), plus added two blocks and four steals versus the Wildcats. The 6-foot-8 sophomore then eclipsed his career high with 22 points and finished with 11 rebounds and one steal versus Bloomsburg on Tuesday. Alexander collected six rebounds and two steals while battling foul trouble on Saturday in an 87-73 win at Kutztown to help Cal snap a seven-game losing streak.
A native of the Hoosier State, Alexander ranks sixth in the league with a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per game and sits among the top 15 with 1.07 blocks per game. He also is among the top 20 in the country with 3.50 offensive rebounds per game and 112 total rebounds this year. Alexander, who is one of only three players to appear in all 14 games this season, is averaging 8.9 points per game after scoring just 36 total points as a true freshman.
Alexander is the second Cal player to be tabbed the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week this winter. Overall, the Vulcans have garnered a weekly league honor three times in six weeks.
The Vulcans are idle until after the holidays when they open PSAC West play by traveling to Erie, Pennsylvania, to face Gannon at the Hagerty Family Events Center with tip-off at 3 p.m.
