LEBANON, Pa. (Oct. 20) – The California (PA) men's golf team registered a third-straight, top-five finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships after climbing one spot in the team standings on Sunday afternoon.
The Vulcans carded a 14-over 302 in the final round to place fifth in the team standings with a 50-over 914 (311-301-302). Cal has now posted a top-five finish at the league championships six times over the last decade. Gannon cruised to the first PSAC Championship in program history, winning the title by a dominating 40 strokes with a nine-under 855 (278-293-284). Pitt-Johnstown jumped into second place in the final round and closed play with a 31-over 895 (304-298-293), while Millersville slipped to third overall with a 36-over 900 (289-308-303).
Sophomore
Chaz Ekoniak climbed five places on Sunday to record a top-10 individual finish in his debut at the conference championships. He carded a one-under 71 in the final round after collecting seven birdies, including five on the back nine. Ekoniak closed the tournament tied for seventh overall with a five-over 221 (77-73-71) after tying for the event lead with 13 total birdies.
Classmate
Gavin Goodrich registered a top-15 finish at the PSAC Championships for a consecutive year. He shot a three-over 75 on Sunday to finish the tournament in 12th place with an 11-over 227 (76-76-75). Goodrich led the team and tied for fifth in the field with 33 total pars over the weekend.
Fellow sophomore
Ben Edwards vaulted eight places on the leader board in the third round to tie for 21st overall with a 16-over 232 (81-76-75). He posted a three-over 75 on Sunday after playing the last seven holes at two-under, highlighted with back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17. Senior
Jack Hritsko shot a nine-over 81 in the final round and tied for 25th place at 19-over 235 (78-76-81). He collected a birdie on the par-five, 480-yard 16th in all three rounds at the league championships. Sophomore
Anthony DePietress finished 32nd overall at 22-over 238 (80-76-82) in his debut at the event.
Cal played the par fives at Iron Valley Golf Club at a combined 13-under, which was third-best in the field. The Vulcans also placed third among teams at the event with 41 birdies and 140 pars over the three days.
Gannon sophomore Mattia Parrini earned medalist honors by five strokes after taking over the individual lead yesterday. He fired a four-under 68 in the final round to close the championships with an eight-under 208 (70-70-68).
