Vulcans remain sixth at PSAC Championships

LEBANON, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Vulcans posted a 13-over 301 on Saturday afternoon to remain sixth in the team standings following the second round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

The California (PA) men's golf team, which cut 10 strokes off its opening-round score, continues to sit sixth with a 36-over 612 (311-301) while at Iron Valley Golf Club. Gannon carded a five-over 293 on Saturday and maintains a 26-stroke lead in the team standings with a five-under 571 (278-293). Millersville remains in second place with a 21-over 597 (289-308) and Pitt-Johnstown ranks third at the league championships with a 26-over 602 (304-298).

Sophomore Chaz Ekoniak shot a one-over 73 in the second round after collecting four birdies on the front nine. He climbed to 12th overall on the individual leader board with a six-over 150 (77-73) while playing at the conference event for the first time in his career. Ekoniak entered the weekend with a scoring average of 75.3 strokes and has been the team's top player at the last two events.

Classmate Gavin Goodrich posted a four-over 76 for the second-straight round and is tied for 14th place with an eight-over 152 (76-76). He registered a trio of birdies over an eight-hole span on Saturday. Senior Jack Hritsko sits in a tie for 18th overall with a 10-over 154 (78-76) after carding three birdies on par fives in the second round.

Sophomore Anthony DePietress posted a four-over 76 in the second round and is tied for 24th overall with a 12-over 156 (80-76). He fired a birdie on the par-five, 480-yard 16th for a consecutive day. Fellow sophomore Ben Edwards ranks in 29th place with a 13-over 157 (81-76) after shooting a four-over 76 on Saturday following a trio of birdies on par fives.

Gannon sophomore Mattia Parrini claimed the individual lead on Saturday after carding a two-under 70 in the second round. He maintains a two-stroke lead over the field with a four-under 140 (70-70).

The Vulcans close out the PSAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 20, with their final-round tee times starting at 9:50 a.m.
