BELLE VERNON, Pa. (Sept. 4) – California (PA) senior
Reese Watson fired the lowest score in the final round of the Vulcan Invitational on Monday to tie for fourth overall on the individual leader board while at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
TEAM NOTES
• Cal posted its lowest score of the event in the final round with a five-over 293.
• The Vulcans finished fourth in the team standings with a 35-over 899 (298-308-293) while hosting 16 teams.
• Gannon earned the team title by just two strokes with a 14-over 878 (289-295-294).
• UPJ placed second with a 16-over 880 (301-293-286) after carding the lowest round of the tournament on Monday.
• Millersville, which was one of eight PSAC schools at the event, finished third with a 33-over 897 (296-303-298).
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Watson fired a three-under 69 in the final round on Monday to tie for fourth overall at three-over 219 (74-76-69) in a field of 100-plus golfers.
• Watson was one of only two golfers at the Vulcan Invitational to card a sub-70 round.
• Watson registered a sub-70 round for the third time in his career with the previous two times being at the 2021 Vulcan Invitational.
• Freshman
Anthony DePietress posted a one-over 73 in the third round and closed the event in a six-way tie for ninth place with a six-over 222 (73-76-73).
• Junior
Cole Villa, who was playing as an individual, also tied for ninth overall with a six-over 222 (74-72-76) at Cedarbrook.
• Gannon senior Ryan Ferry garnered medalist honors by three strokes after firing a two-under 214 (71-73-70).
