Cal finishes fourth at PSAC Championships

LEBANON, Pa. (Oct. 22) – Behind a pair of top-10 individual finishers, the Vulcans placed fourth in the team standings at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Sunday to mark the program's best finish at the event since 2017.

The California (PA) men's golf team shot a 26-over 314 in the third round to climb one spot in the team standings on the final day. The Vulcans posted a 74-over 938 (310-314-314) while at Iron Valley Golf Club to close the fall season. Millersville captured the league championship for the first time since 2013 after shooting the lowest round of the tournament on Sunday at eight-over 296. The Marauders claimed first place in the team standings in the second round before earning the conference title by 14 strokes with a 39-over 903 (309-298-296). Four-time, defending-league champion IUP finished second with a 53-over 917 (302-306-309) and Gannon placed third at the league meet with a 64-over 928 (307-313-308).

Senior Reese Watson closed the event tied for sixth overall after firing a two-over 74 in the final round. He vaulted eight places on the individual leader board on Sunday after shooting a 14-over 230 (78-78-74) while playing at the PSAC Championships for the fourth time in his career. Watson carded three birdies on the front nine in the final round and led the team with nine birdies over the weekend. The Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, native posted his second career top-10 finish at the PSAC Championships, as he previously tied for seventh at the event during the spring 2021 campaign.

Freshman Gavin Goodrich tied for 10th place at the league meet with a 17-over 233 (79-79-75). He posted a three-over 75 on Sunday and climbed 11 places on the individual leader board in the final round. Goodrich shot seven pars on the front nine before collecting a trio of birdies in the third round.

Seniors Aidan Bushey and Brandon Singer tied for 22nd overall after shooting a 24-over 240 at the league championships. Bushey (81-80-79) carded a seven-over 79 in the final round and Singer (75-79-86) posted a 14-over 86 on Sunday. Classmate Connor Alfieri posted a 16-over 88 in the third round and finished in 34th place with a 28-over 244 (78-78-88).

Millersville freshman Timothy Peters captured medalist honors by two strokes after shooting a three-over 219 (73-72-74). He led the field with 12 birdies over three rounds, including four birdies on Sunday.
