LEBANON, Pa. (Oct. 21) – The California (PA) men's golf team sits fifth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships following the second round at Iron Valley Golf Club on Saturday.
The Vulcans posted a 26-over 314 in the second round and are just four strokes back of third place at 48-over 624 (310-314) entering the final round. Millersville fired a 10-over 298 on Saturday – an 11-stroke improvement from the opening round – to seize a one-stroke lead in the team standings at 31-over 607 (309-298). IUP sits second at the league championships with a 32-over 608 (302-306), while Gannon and Pitt-Johnstown are tied for third place at 44-over 620.
Senior
Brandon Singer shot a seven-over 79 in the second round and sits tied for ninth overall with a 10-over 154 (75-79). He collected a birdie on the par-five third on Saturday before registering his second eagle of the tournament on the par-five, 480-yard 16th. Singer, who is the only golfer at the tournament with multiple eagles, is tied for the lead in the field by playing the par threes at a combined one-over through two rounds.
Fellow seniors
Connor Alfieri and
Reese Watson are tied for 15th place at 12-over 156 following 36 holes. Alfieri (78-78), who leads the team with 18 pars, made the turn in the second round at one-over with a birdie on three and carded par on six of his last seven holes. Watson (78-78) tallied three birdies in the second round and is tied for the team lead with five birdies at the conference meet.
Freshman
Gavin Goodrich shot a seven-over 79 on Saturday and is tied for 21st overall at 14-over 158 (79-79). He fired back-to-back birdies on the front nine in the second round and played the back nine at three-over. Senior
Aidan Bushey posted an eight-over 80 in the second round and climbed to 24th place at 17-over 161 (81-80). He played the back nine at two-over with back-to-back birdies and an eagle on the par-five 16th.
Gannon sophomore Giovanni Delorenzi and Millersville freshman Timothy Peters are tied for the individual lead after 36 holes at one-over 145. Peters shot an even-par 72 in the second round to move into a tie with Delorenzi after collecting four birdies and an eagle on the par-five third. Delorenzi posted a one-over 73 on Saturday and leads the field with a combined 26 pars.
The PSAC Championships are set to conclude tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 22, with the initial tee times set for approximately 10 a.m. The Vulcans are scheduled for an 11 a.m. tee time in the final round.
