LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 13) – Behind a top-five overall finish, California (PA) junior Malia Anderson (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) was chosen the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Anderson placed fourth overall at the Daemen Alumni Invitational (5K) on Saturday in the season-opening race for the Vulcans. She crossed the finish line with a time of 19 minutes, 33.1 seconds in a field of 56 runners. Anderson helped Cal finish second in the team standings with a total of 43 points.
A Greensburg Salem product, Anderson garnered All-PSAC Second Team honors in cross country last year before winning the 800-meter run at the PSAC Outdoor Championships. She notched a team-best finish at both championship races during the cross country season. Anderson is the first Vulcan to receive the honor since Alicia Belko obtained the distinction in the 2018 season.
Overall, Cal swept the Athlete of the Week laurels in men's and women's cross country for the first time since Oct. 19, 2015.
The Vulcans are next scheduled to compete in the Live in Lou Classic hosted by Louisville on Oct. 1.
