Cal U competes at WVU Last Chance

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 7) – In their final preparation for the league championships, the Vulcans won a pair of individual events and reached four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks on Saturday while at the Last Chance Meet hosed by West Virginia.

Junior Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) claimed the victory in the 100-meter dash for the first time this spring. He posted a wind-aided time of 10.94 seconds to win the event by five-hundredths of a second. Lytle is seeded third on the conference's performance list in the event.

Fellow junior Michael Berdar (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) won the high jump while at WVU after clearing 1.80 meters (5-10.75 feet) on his third attempt at the height.

Senior Matt Collins (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) recorded a pair of top-three finishes on Saturday. He placed third in the shot put with a heave of 13.42 meters (44-0.5 feet) and finished third in the discus throw with a distance of 41.80 meters (137-2.0 feet). Collins sits among the top 10 in the league this spring in both the discus throw and hammer throw.

Junior Ethan Moyer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and senior Sam Rothstein (Sykesville, Md./Century) placed second in their respective events while in West Virginia. Moyer posted a distance of 43.06 meters (141-3.0 feet) in the javelin throw, while Rothstein tallied a mark of 13.49 meters (44-3.25 feet) in the shot put.

Junior Tyrese Canada (Richmond, Va./Henrico) reached the league-qualifying standard in the 100-meter dash and set a personal record in the 200-meter dash over the weekend. He placed fifth in the 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 11.09 seconds and finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.72 seconds.

Sophomore Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) posted a PSAC-qualifying time of 1 minute, 54.48 seconds and placed fourth overall in the 800-meter run. Senior John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) finished third in the 110-meter hurdles while reaching the league standard with a time of 15.67 seconds.

The Vulcans return to action at the PSAC Championships in Millersville, Pennsylvania, from May 12-14.
