ABOUT THE SERIES
• Cal U and IUP are meeting in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons and the first time since the Crimson Hawks claimed a 68-60 win in the 2019 Atlantic Regional Championship at Glenville State.
• The Vulcans swept the regular-season series with the Crimson Hawks this year for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.
BACK AGAIN
Cal U is making its 18th NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 21 playing seasons and holds an all-time record of 33-15 in the NCAA Tournament. Since 2002, the Vulcans hold a record of 13-3 in the first round of the tournament with their last loss coming in 2018 to IUP.
FAMILIAR FACE
The Vulcans are facing a fellow PSAC member in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in their last 12 appearances, a span that dates back to 2008. Cal U holds a 5-4 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament against league opponents, including an 0-2 mark against the Crimson Hawks in the tournament.
DOUBLE THREAT
In her first year with the program, junior
Dejah Terrell was selected the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year. She became one of three players in league history to receive both awards in the same season. Terrell ranks second in the Atlantic Region with 2.72 blocks per game and is tied for second with 18.8 points per game. The Reading native has scored at least 20 points 10 times this year, highlighted by four 30-point games.
STELLAR DEFENSE
The Vulcans feature one of the premier defenses in the country, as they lead the Atlantic Region in scoring defense at just 51.6 points per game and rank sixth in field-goal percentage defense at .361. Cal U holds an impressive 14-0 mark this year when holding its opponents under 50 points and force over 22 turnovers per game, which is good for third in the region. The Vulcans have recorded 10 or more steals in 17 games this season.
FLOOR GENERAL
Junior
Ciaira Loyd earned All-PSAC West First-Team laurels in her first season with the team. She leads the Vulcans and sits third in the Atlantic Region in both assists per game at 5.9 and total assists (172). Loyd has collected seven or more assists in 11 games this season while also scoring 12.4 points per game, which is second-best on the team. She is only the sixth player in the last three-plus decades of the program to average at least 5.9 assists per game in a season.
TEAM LEADER
Junior
Justina Mascaro earned All-PSAC West First-Team status for a consecutive year. She paces the Crimson Hawks with 13.5 points per game while sitting fifth in the Atlantic Region with a .549 field-goal percentage. Mascaro has scored in double-digits 22 times this season while shooting .442 from long range with 50 three-pointers on the year. She also sits second on the team with 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
STROM IS BOMB
For the third time in her career,
Jess Strom was selected the PSAC West Coach of the Year. She enters the NCAA Tournament as the all-time winningest coach in program history with a 236-66 overall record. Strom has guided the Vulcans to the Atlantic Regional Tournament for the eighth-straight year and ninth time in her career. She holds a 13-5 record in the tournament, highlighted by winning the 2015 NCAA National Championship.
DEJA VU
The No. 1 seed Glenville State will host the Atlantic Regional Tournament for the second time in the last three playing seasons. The Pioneers feature the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Player of the Year in
Re'Shawna Stone and the Coach of the Year
Kim Stephens. Glenville paces the Atlantic Region in multiple categories and lead NCAA Division II in both scoring offense at 97.1 points per game and a plus-12.93 turnover margin.
