MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 19) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's track & field team qualified nine entries for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships while starting the outdoor season at the Stan Romanoski Open hosted by West Virginia over the weekend.
Senior
Jalen Cloud (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski) reached the NCAA provisional standard while winning the triple jump over the weekend. He posted a distance of 14.80 meters (48-6.75 feet) on his sixth and final attempt at West Virginia. Cloud also qualified for the league championships in the long jump with a mark of 6.66 meters (21-10.25 feet) on his initial attempt. The Kiski product placed third overall in the event behind only a pair of entries from Akron.
Freshman
Logan Pfister (Fishertown, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) claimed the victory and reached the conference standard in the high jump. He cleared 1.94 meters (6-4.25 feet) on his initial attempt at the height. Pfister captured the indoor league title in the high jump last month.
Fellow freshman
Ian Zimmerman (Bedford, Pa./Northern Bedford County) won the 5,000-meter run in the opening meet of the outdoor season. He cruised to the victory by nearly 32 seconds with a league-qualifying time of 15 minutes, 26.53 seconds at West Virginia.

Aaron McPherson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) reached the conference standard in both the long jump and triple jump over the weekend. He placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.37 meters (43-10.5 feet) on his fifth attempt, while finishing fourth overall in the long jump with a mark of 6.62 meters (21-8.75 feet) on his first leap.
Seniors
Avery Boea-Gisler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) and
John Franklin, Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) both qualified for the league championships in various hurdle events at West Virginia. Boea-Gisler placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.53 seconds while making his college debut in the event and Franklin finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.92 seconds.
Sophomore
Noah Bernarding (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) crossed the finish line with a conference-qualifying time of 1:54.74 to place second in the 800-meter run.
Senior
Sam Rothstein (Sykesville, Md./Century) finished second in the shot put with a heave of 12.94 meters (42-5.5 feet) on his fifth attempt. Junior
Michael Berdar (Centerville, Pa./Beth-Center) cleared 1.84 meters (6-0.5 feet) to place second behind only Pfister in the high jump over the weekend.
Junior
Kristopher Lytle (Columbia, Md./Atholton) registered a pair of top-five times while at West Virginia. He crossed the finish line third overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.21 seconds and placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.25 seconds.
The Vulcans return to action next weekend with select members of the team competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State, while others will compete at the Bethany Invitational.
